The mobile monitoring system for container transport (MMCT)
monitors the transfer of spent fuel via railcar and consists of
radiation monitoring, video surveillance and GPS location
equipment, and smart power management. Radiation sensors detect the
spent fuel assembly during the loading, transfer and unloading
process. The detector enclosure contains the detector assembly,
comprising six 3He neutron tubes and two ionization chambers. The
system is capable of acquiring safeguards data over a continuous
period of more than one week under harsh outdoor environmental
conditions without recharging of batteries being required.
