Acquisition path analysis is the analysis of all plausible acquisition paths or acquisition strategies for a State to acquire nuclear material usable for the manufacture of a nuclear explosive device. An acquisition path analysis may be part of the development of a State level safeguards approach. The purpose of an acquisition path analysis is to determine whether a proposed set of safeguards measures would provide sufficient detection capability with respect to a specific acquisition path or acquisition strategy.
