A State's legal system providing the legislative and
regulatory framework that supports the sensitive nature of nuclear
security information (Source: IAEA Nuclear Security Series,
No.7).
The State legal and regulatory framework must
provide the following:
- Licensing requirements;
- Authorization of access to facilities and other sensitive
locations, including continual determinations of
trustworthiness;
- Protection of radioactive material in use, storage and in
transport;
- Protection of sensitive nuclear security information;
- Criminalization of acts that have malicious intent or
consequences, e.g. those detailed in the CPPNM or the UN
International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear
Terrorism;
- Response to the detection of radioactive material not under
regulatory control.
