Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (Tlatelolco Treaty)

  • First NWFZ, entered into force in 1969
  • 38 signatory states in the region
  • Prohibits the testing, use, manufacture, production or acquisition by any means, as well as the receipt, storage, installation, deployment and any form of possession, of any nuclear weapons by States in the zone
  • The 5 NWS have all ratified this treaty, abiding by the wishes of the signatory states
