Treaty Establishing the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom Treaty)

Current membership of Euratom.

The European community has also created a regional agreement for the creation of its inspecting and safeguarding body, Euratom.

  • Entered into force in 1958
  • 15 signatory states (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK)
  • Euratom created to ensure the European Commission that all nuclear material in the signatory states is not diverted from its intended use
  • Euratom also tasked with certifying compliance with any agreement with a third state or international organization (IAEA)
